| ClubSport Oregon's Jarod Cogswell Named Recipient of John McCarthy Institute Merit Scholarship |

BOSTON-July 27, 2006- The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) today announced that Jarod Cogswell, General Manager of ClubSport Oregon has been named recipient of the first annual John McCarthy Institute Merit Scholarship. Established in 2006 through donations from industry founders and friends, the scholarship, which will be awarded annually, provides full tuition and a $500 travel stipend to IHRSA's Institute for Professional Club Management.
'I was extremely impressed by the quality of the finalists,' said Roger Ralph, former owner of Bel Air Athletic Club and current partner of Hockessin Athletic Club. 'In the end, the selection committee felt that Jarod's demonstrated passion for the industry, his commitment to his club's future, his service and leadership skills made him the best candidate for the award.'
Selected from a group of six finalists, Cogswell has served as General Manager of ClubSport Oregon since 1999. Cogswell demonstrated significant ability in leading his team to turn around a low cost provider to a profitable high-end fitness option with resort style amenities and exceptional customer service.
Applications for the scholarship were evaluated by a selection committee comprised of five industry professionals: Rick Caro of Management Vision, Nestor Fernandez of Western Athletic Clubs, Steve Tharrett of Club Industry Consulting, Roger Ralph of Hockessin Athletic Club and Paul Brown of Face2Face Retention Systems.
IHRSA will host the 18th Annual IHRSA Institute for Professional Club Management from August 7-11, 2006 at the Babson Executive Conference Center in Wellesley, Massachusetts. This four-day intensive club management course includes interactive sessions, problem solving workshops, social events and a vast array of networking opportunities.
