The American Tanning Institute (ATI) is raising the bar for tanning professionals with its industry training and tanning certification program. The organization's objective is to ensure that all program participants receive four hours of comprehensive training, in a formal classroom setting, focusing on: the requirements of state and FDA tanning regulations; procedures for correct operation of a tanning facility and tanning equipment; recognition of injury or overexposure to UV light; equipment manufacturers' procedures for operation and maintenance of tanning equipment; determination of consumers' skin types and appropriate exposure to registered tanning equipment; and emergency procedures to be used in case of injury.
